French style custom reception stand

March 6th, 2012 Comments Off

Recently, a client we have done a lot of work for, came to us looking for a reception stand. She gave us basic dimensions and told us to design something. Nadine (Showroom manager of DHI) told me about a store in Leesburg, FL, that sells furniture and stuff they import from France.

Here is two photos of their warehouse “Victoria’s Antiques”:

It was quite overwhelming. I could literally spend 2 days in there and probably still not see everything.

Back to the project,

At the store, Michelle Lalonde and I searched high and low for some neat pieces to create the reception stand out of. After two hours we settled with two pieces.

The first piece is an old walnut shelf. It was hung on a wall at one point.

The carvings on the corbels are hand carved and a-symmetric.

The main items I want from this piece are the corbels and the molding.

Piece number 2 is a pair of paneled, hand-carved oak doors.

I thought I was going to be able to use them in their entirety, but I will be using only the panels and the molding.

Later in the week I started designing. I sketched a few ideas up, and decided on a break front style, paneled, stand.

I then put it in CAD for the customer to approve.

She has approved the drawings and design. Stay tuned for some future updates on the project!
